Sterling Silver Croix Pattee Iron Cross Pendant
Sterling Silver Croix Pattee Iron Cross Pendant
This magnificent iron cross is crafted of solid sterling silver with a mirror finish and oxidized recesses that really make the design pop. Featuring narrow arms at the base, curving outward to a broader perimeter, the iron cross, or "cross pattee" first appears in medieval art; a 7th century example of which is the treasure binding given to Monza Cathedral by Queen Theodelinda (circa 600's). The Knight's Templar began using this design (red in color, on white robes) during the Crusades, as did the Teutonic Knights (plain black cross on white). There are many historical references and uses of this classic design, but I can't go into all of them here. Handcrafted in solid sterling silver, this is the medium sized version of this cross. Check my shop for other sizes.
I have included a photograph of the pendant next to a quarter for size reference. Pair this pendant with a necklace or chain and find your inner renegade.
